LA coroner to hold back Jackson autopsy results

LOS ANGELES : The Los Angeles County coroner's office said it had completed a ‘thorough and comprehensive’ autopsy of Michael Jackson but would not release the results until police complete their investigation.

"The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner has completed its investigation into the death of Mr Michael Jackson," the office said in a statement. "The investigation was thorough and comprehensive."

The LAPD said it had requested that "the cause and manner of death remain confidential" and that an existing security hold on the results of the coroner's investigation remain in place.

"In accordance with this request, the Department of Coroner will not comment on its completed investigation," the coroner's office said.

The continued security measures, the LAPD said, "will help maintain the integrity of the investigation and allow investigators from LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division, as well as our partner law enforcement agencies to continue their investigation."

The coroner's office has been charged with investigating the causes that led to the King of Pop's death at age 50 from an apparent cardiac arrest on June 25 at his rented mansion in Los Angeles.

The statement gave no indication when the county coroner's office might release the results of toxicological tests carried out on the singer's body.

Authorities are probing whether Jackson's death was a criminal act, with doctor Conrad Murray at the center of investigators' attention.

CNN has reported that police believe Murray gave Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol, whose trade name is Diprivan. Murray's lawyers have maintained their client is innocent.
