Top 5 Baseball Players Ever

Choosing the top 5 baseball players ever is no easy task. The game is said to have started in the 1700's, and many great players have come and gone. Baseball has not changed that much, you still have to hit a ball with a stick, but it has had its share of controversies. However, we're here to talk about the best, and in no particular order her they are.


1. Babe Ruth was better known as the " Sultan of Swat". He was baseball's first great slugger and celebrated athlete of his time. While everyone remembers Ruth as a slugger, he started his career as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. When the Babe was sold to the New York Yankees he became a legend by leading the Yanks to seven AL pennants and four World Series crowns. The slugger hit 60 long bombs in 1927 and hit 714 homers during his career.



2. Ted William is considered by some to be the greatest hitter in the modern era. It's hard to argue with his two-time winning of the Triple Crown and AL MVP. Also, he batted.406 in 1941 and had a lifetime batting average of.344. The left fielder was a 17-time All-Star, won six batting championships and hit 521 career home runs.



3. Lou Gehrig was a first baseman and known as "The Iron Horse". He played 2,130 consecutive games, a streak that stretched from 1925 to 1939. He helped the New York Yankees win six titles in his 13 year career. He also had 23 career grand slams and won the Triple Crown in 1934.

4. Mickey Mantle is probably the greatest switch hitter in history playing center field for the Yankees. "The Mick" spent his 18-year career helping them win 12 AL pennants and 7 World Series. He holds the record for most home runs in the Series with 18, hit 531 home runs in his career and won the Triple Crown in 1956.



5. Willie Mays was a a center fielder and the best all-around player in the game's history. Mays was selected to the All-Star Game 24 times, won 12 Gold Gloves and was a two-time NL MVP. He hit 660 homers and became the first player to collect 3,000 hits and 500 homers.
